Capacity Breakout II: Continued Growth

Working with other collaborative partners to maximize community readiness — Dr. Wanda Boone.

Dr. Wanda Boone, WEBOO, Inc. is a training and technical assistance consultant with over 35 years of experience. WEBOO helps uncover Resilient Communities by Design. Dr. Boone engages community members in the public health model. She promotes an understanding of equity and helps communities discover their “Thrive.” Dr. Boone is the Founder of Together for Resilient Youth (TRY) a Drug Free Community Coalition in year six of the award. TRY prevents substance use by addressing community risk factors as such Wanda sees her work as an effort to combat a series of cultural shifts that have made risky behaviors and substance use so appealing to youth – the packaging of alcohol in larger and more kid-friendly forms, the glamorization of drug use and risky behaviors by musicians, the belief among youth that marijuana as green and good and the rise of opioids as a new norm. Dr. Boone is an Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE)/Resilience train the trainer and Master trainer on many topics related to coalition building, grant writing and strategic planning. For Wanda “It is all about individuals reclaiming their power, and changing the landscape, the places where people live, work and play” TRY has been recognized by the US Surgeon General as “connecting the dots to have influence on the built environment by engaging a grassroots effort to drive change.”
